Travel Guidance

Arriving in Paris

Flying from the United States, you should purchase your flights to travel June 21, arriving in France on June 22.

Most flights from the US land in the morning, so you will have plenty of time to relax, stroll around, and freshen up before the Welcome Drinks & Dinner. If you expect to arrive before the hotel check-in time (below), let us know and we will do our best to secure early check-in for you.

You should book your flights to either of the two major airports: Charles de Gaulle (also known as Roissy) or Orly. We do not recommend you fly into the city’s third airport, Beauvais, which is very far from Paris (53 miles) and with traffic can take 2-3 hours by taxi.

Taxis

From Charles de Gaulle a taxi costs a flat rate of €56 to the hotel and will take anywhere from 45 minutes to over an hour, depending on traffic.

From Orly a taxi costs a flat rate of €45 to the hotel and will take from 30 minutes to over an hour, depending on traffic.

Some important notes about taxis in Paris:

  • As you come out of the airport, follow the signs to the taxi stand. There are sometimes two taxi lines - one for central Paris and the other for the suburbs (banlieue). There is often a line during peak arrival times, but it generally moves quickly. Do not take a ride from anyone inside or outside the airport who offers you a ride, even if they say they drive an official taxi. These are scammers and will charge you much more than the normal fixed rates.

  • You will typically be charged €1 per bag for your luggage.

  • You may tip a few euros if your driver is helpful, but tips are not expected in taxis.

  • While all taxis are supposed to take credit card, they sometimes won’t. For this reason we recommend getting out some euros in cash from an ATM at the airport before going outside to the taxi stand. Alternatively, you may ask the driver before you get in if he/she will take a card (Je peux payer par carte?) See more on the Getting Around page.

  • While Paris does have Ubers and other ride share apps, we do not recommend using them for airport pick-ups. They are not permitted to come to the arrivals area, and finding them can be complicated.

Arranging a Pick-Up

We are happy to help arrange airport transfers, if you prefer to have a car pick you up rather than taking a taxi. Pricing can vary, and this requires that you be able to use your phone as soon as you land so that the driver can reach you to tell you where to find the car upon exiting the airport.

Please let us know if you would like us to book a car for either your arrival or departure, or if you would like more information about traveling from/to elsewhere in France or Europe.

Note that if you would like us to book your airport transfers, you must let us know no later than May 22.

Public Transportation

While it is relatively simple (and quick) to get to the hotel from either airport via public transportation, it does require a fair bit of walking, including going up and down steps with your bags. If this is your preferred means of transport, let us know and we’ll provide you with clear instructions!
