Women in Paris | June 22-29, 2025
Packing Tips
There is nothing in particular you are required to bring to participate in this Elective. Below is a list of suggestions.
If possible, we strongly recommend that you travel with a carry-on bag only, so that you are spared any potential hassle from delayed or lost luggage.
Clothing
Comfortable footwear: You'll be walking quite a bit during Field Seminars—and even after class, you'll likely want to keep exploring. Be sure to bring sturdy, comfortable shoes.
Casual attire: You can generally dress casually anywhere in Paris, though if you like, you can pack something slightly dressier - but by no means formal - for the Farewell Dinner. (Women may want to wear a dress or nice pants; men, a button-down shirt and slacks.) The rest of the time, jeans or similar are fine. Note that athletic wear (yoga pants, hoodies) are not appropriate in restaurants in Paris.
Flexibility is key: June is typically a beautiful time of year, but the weather can be unpredictable—some years are warm, while others are on the cooler side. Keep an eye on the forecast in the week leading up to your trip, and consider packing a light jacket and an umbrella so you're prepared for anything.
Hat: A wide-brimmed hat or even a baseball cap can keep you cool and protect you from the sun while you’re out and about.
Essentials
Medication: Be sure to bring any daily medications you'll need, along with any necessary prescriptions. If you must check a bag, it’s always a good idea to carry these in your hand luggage.
Sunscreen & Sunglasses: Paris may not be tropical, but the sun can be surprisingly strong this time of year. Protect yourself with sunscreen and a good pair of sunglasses.
Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is key, especially while you’re on the go. A reusable water bottle is a great way to keep water on hand, and you can refill it at the many public fountains around the city.
Backpack: While out and about on Field Seminars, a backpack is the best way to easily carry a sweater or jacket, a notebook, your water bottle, etc.
Miscellaneous
Camera & Journal: If you like to take pictures, consider bringing a camera to capture Paris’s beauty. A journal is great for jotting down memories, sketches, or museum notes.
Travel Adapters: France uses type C and F plugs, so remember to bring travel adapters for phones and computers. Make sure that any other electronics (hair dryer, shaver, etc.) indicate universal voltage (110-240 V).
